SDIA definition
We define a cloud platform as the 'software' that enables cloud infrastructure to work. It unifies disaggregated sets of servers, like virtualization does, into one cohesive source of digital power. Unlike virtualization, however, it does not break the resources into 'virtaul servers' but instead uses abstraction to make them individually consumable (compute, storage, network). They therefore feel like they are independent but may all come from the same server, or two servers in two completely different place. Essentially, cloud platforms are the software that make digital power feel like a commodity such as electricity.
